Going global

Sometimes I wonder what makes Indians so desperate that we are ready to forgo our traditions just to make money. Especially so with the so called Global companies coming into the arena.

Deepavali/Diwali is a time of year where traditionally the company gives gifts to employees - at the very least a box of sweets. If a company sends a mail greeting people and saying gifts will reach in 30 days, perhaps the management got it's ideas really wrong, considering diwali and it's dates were known at least a year ago! I wonder how it would be to hear such a thing around Christmas time. Motivation... oh well ya a month later buddy :-)

I have even heard of companies where people are given holidays in line with US. In fact to such an extent that they get holidays for US independence day but not Indian. Did someone say globalization? Perhaps it's synonymous with westernization...

Truely Said !! Broader sense we must be happy that we got an email wishing in for Diwali !! :) Feel unless India really becomes global rather than being westernized.. things don't seem to change !!

It is debatable. Deepavali wasnt the national famous festivel all along the centuries.

The celebrations in South India started during Vijaya nagara golden era. And then flowed down to south. Even now it is not a celebrated festivel in Kerala.

Whatever you call as globalisation..... is happening within India in the name of Indianisation... and one assumptions is what you have made.

The companies align their holiday calender for business purposes. Well... everybody need money... including you ;-)

btw... r u living ur life Indian way? ;-)

Aligning with business purposes...now that's debatable too. If they had their way, they would not give you any paid leaves or holidays ;-)

I guess you didnt understand the meaning with which I mentioned that. A call center need to work on Indian holiday. If it is closed on Indian holidays... then it has to be kept closed. That is the alignment I am talking about.

I remember mentioning some more points in my comment. Any answers? ;)
